For Just That Right Gourmet Touch

Of all the seafood options to enhance the taste of yee sang, I personally opt for jelly-fish. I love the soft, spongy texture that goes so well with the crispier feel of the other ingredients.

This special packaging of Spring Toss is made up of that delectable marine catch, salted to perfection. It goes beautifully with any of the Spring Toss recipes. Trouble with me is I'm such a glut for this item that I often empty more than one packet onto my yee sang platter before mixing. But I never hear any complaints.

Have A Care For Your Earth Home

Spring Toss Yee Sang

While we make a big bang and live it up in riotous joy during the New Year season, let's not forget one important thing. Our world is our responsibility.

To promote an awareness of environment-friendly living, Spring Toss has brought out this special packaging with a FREE recycle-bag. Though, if you ask me, it does seem a pity that such an attractive bag should be recycled.

Still, it's good to know that if each of us does his or her part, there WILL be a difference - for the better. I think Goddess Nu Wu would give us the thumbs-up.

IMPERIAL SPRING YEE SANG - A Royal Treat In The Season Of Spring

You simply must check out the Imperial Spring Yee Sang range Spring Toss has concocted for the Year of the Tiger. It comes in three festive packagings to suit individual preferences. I especially love the package designs. They're not only eye-catching; they've also got that endearing "Fa Cai" ambience so close to Chinese hearts.
The Imperial Spring range contains the six basic ingredients of Green Kua Ying, Red and Yellow Ginger, Pickled Leeks, Kua Ying and Pickled Papaya, which accompany all three packagings.

On top of these are three extra condiments comprising Chuka Hotate, Chuka Kurage and Wakame to give your yee sang that extra zing.

Not forgetting, of course, the essential ingredients of Pok Choy, Peanut and Sesame, Lime Sauce, Edible Vegetable Oil and Sliced Yam, which I consider the very foundations of yee sang, in a manner of speaking.

Then comes the match with the marine catch, an element so many insist upon in the yee sang platter. You have four choices of salmon, abalone, scallop and octopus with which to delight your taste buds.

But, like I always say, when it comes to yee sang, the rules are not always inviolate. You mix as the fancy strikes you. After all, it's your own palate you're aiming to please.. Let's look at the three packagings individually, each of which serves 8 to 10 "loh-hey-ers" (customised word, not copyrighted).

IMPERIAL ARRAY

This particular packaging is meant for those sticklers for tradition who prefer the original taste of yee sang without any enhancements. It's ready-to-serve. You just empty the contents onto a platter and it's all systems go for your loh-hey session.

IMPERIAL BANQUET

And what a convenient banquet, I might add. It even comes with a complimentary serving plate so you can loh-hey wherever and whenever the fancy strikes you. Try having a loh-hey picnic on your lawn this year with this packaging. You'll do it again, I promise you.

IMPERIAL GESTURE

What a delightful and appropriate gift for Chinese New Year! A culinary treat with an artistic touch. You can't miss when you say "Gong Xi Fa Cai" with this! And the gift-box in which it comes is so pretty you just can't bring yourself to throw it away.

HAPPY FAMILY FEAST

Happy Family Feast Family Packaging

Picture it - you and your family seated at your dining table with a mouth-watering dish of yee sang before you. It's the time of year when all your wishes to every Chinese you meet begins with "Gong Xi". You use your chopsticks to pick up portions of the yee sang ingredients and toss them high in the air with shouts and laughter. And you wish for all the things that you hope the year will bring you.

Isn't that the idyll of domestic bliss, the happy family feast? And that, aptly, is the name of one of Spring Toss Yee Sang's packagings - Happy Family Feast Family Packaging. It's ideal for a gathering of seven to ten. I especially like its attractive packaging which makes the item a lovely gift for Chinese New Year.

You'd be surprised how many times I've bought myself that particular gift. And why not - a person should always be good to himself, shouldn't he?

THE REAL THING

Authentic Heritage Yee Sang

There's this package called Authentic Heritage intended for seven to ten diners. It's also the only product in the Spring Toss range that comes with preserved fishmeat, namely jellyfish. I guess that's what makes this product live up to its name "Authentic Heritage". Way back in China where this dish hails from, folks insisted that some form of uncooked marine catch must be included among the ingredients.

The other items you will find in this product are sliced yam, handmade egg crackers, lime sauce, red and yellow ginger, pickled papaya, pickled leeks, fried sliced yam, lime, groundnuts, sesame seed, five-spice powder and black pepper. Talk about flavour!

Whenever I start listing out yee sang ingredients I go into a frame of mind where I see myself seated before a big plate of yee sang with my chopsticks poised, my stomach growling and ... I think I'd better call it a day.
